We run through all these checks and much more before we handover our vehicles but these need to be run a weekly basis to ensure that the vehicle stays safe for you. If you have questions or need help please call us on 032600883, Option 1. If you get stuck and need help then New Zealand is a pretty friendly place and most garages would happily help you out.

1 – Check Engine Oil Level:

Check your engine oil weekly when the car is warm and on level ground. Stop the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle, remove the dipstick and wipe it clean. Push the dipstick all the way in, wait a second, and then withdraw it and check the level. The oil should be between the two marks.  Remember to push the dipstick fully in when refitting.

2 – Check Radiator Coolant:

Check the coolant level at least weekly. If your car is fitted with an expansion / recovery tank check that the coolant level is at or slightly above the ‘minimum’ mark when the engine is cold, or somewhere between half and ‘maximum’ marks with the engine at operating temperature.  It’s also essential to regularly check the coolant level at the radiator when the engine is cold. It should be full. if you are unsure please call us.

If your car doesn’t have an expansion tank, check that the water is within about 25mm of the top of the radiator filler neck when the engine is cold. Never open the cooling system when the engine is hot as you could receive serious burns. If more coolant is required, add a mixture of clean water and the recommended coolant/inhibitor, If the coolant is green then green coolant must be used, if the coolant as pink then pink coolant must be used. If you are unsure please call us.

3 – Check Tire pressure:

All tires should have a tires pressure of 36PSI. Stop off at any garage to check you have the right pressure. incorrect pressures could increase the chances of a puncture and also reduces the fuel efficiency of the vehicles.

We hope you are having an awesome time on the road and we want to make sure you are all safe as well so please make sure to complete these checks every week, any questions please call us, we are happy to help.
